Temporary Suspension of Grease Trap and Septage Waste Acceptance

The Bridgetown Waste Facility's liquid waste ponds have reached full capacity and, as a result, the Shire must temporarily suspend acceptance of grease trap and septage waste.

This year has seen a cooler summer, an earlier start to the wet season and significant rainfall, all of which have contributed to higher water levels in the ponds. Rainfall recorded since April includes 47.8 mm in April, 124 mm in June, 122.2 mm in August and a further 24 mm so far in September.

The ponds operate under strict environmental requirements and are lined to prevent seepage into surrounding soils and groundwater. As a result, available storage capacity can be significantly affected by rainfall and evaporation conditions.

Shire officers are actively working to restore capacity by arranging for a portion of the wastewater to be transported to an approved external treatment facility. Restoring the service remains a priority.

In the meantime, liquid waste generated within the Shire can be disposed of at other licensed facilities. Several contractors continue to provide this service, and residents are encouraged to obtain multiple quotes as prices may vary.

The Shire recognises this temporary suspension may cause inconvenience and appreciates the community's patience while capacity is restored.
