Community Landcare Officer

The Bridgetown-Greenbushes Community Landcare is operated by Blackwood Environmental Society, with funding support from the Shire.

 

The Community Landcare Officer provides free information, resources and support for landholders within our Shire, to manage and improve native and introduced vegetation on their properties. Through interaction with our local community, the Community Landcare Officer (CLO) offers:

• Water testing,
• Weed and plant identification services,
• Loan tree planting and fauna monitoring equipment,
• Assistance with relevant funding applications,
• Project activities,
• Revegetation advice,
• Educational opportunities through workshops and field days.

 

With the support of the Helping Hands Bushcarers, a local group of conservation minded volunteers, the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Community Landcare Officer undertakes fortnightly maintenance activities within many of the Shire managed reserves. These activities include weed control, historic and current rubbish removal, revegetation, walk trail maintenance, seed collection, fauna data collection and school-based planting activities.

 

Since 2022 our Community Landcare Officer has been Karrie Williamson, who shares her many years of experience and knowledge in Natural Resource Management with our local Community.

Karrie took over the CLO position from Cheryl Hamence, who was involved in Landcare within the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Shire for 32 years!
