Greenbushes Cemetery - Bushfire Mitigation Update

Published on Thursday, 20 August 2026 at 3:21:34 PM

The Greenbushes Cemetery is an important historical site, and the Shire has recently completed a bushfire risk assessment to identify how best to protect it.
Our mitigation team has already carried out mechanical works and prescribed burning around the cemetery. The next stage involves removing vegetation along Stinton Street, including several large non-native trees. These trees pose a safety risk to volunteer firefighters by dropping limbs and potentially blocking the single access route into the cemetery during an emergency.
To improve safety and reduce long-term bushfire risk, the Shire intends to remove these trees and work with local community groups to replant more suitable species that enhance the area while supporting bushfire resilience.
We will be consulting the Greenbushes Community regarding the choice of replacement tree species
