Relocation of Visitor Centre to Railway Station is Full Steam Ahead

The Shire of Bridgetown Greenbushes formally decided last week to agree the relocation of the Visitor Centre from its current location on Hampton Street to the newly revitalised Bridgetown Railway Station.

Earlier this month members of the public were invited to view proposed plans for the Visitors Centre to be relocated to the newly refurbished Railway Station in Bridgetown.

There were two opportunities for community to view plans at a pop up information display at the Community Kiosk on Hampton Street with staff and Councillors in attendance to answer questions and discuss concerns.

The plans were also on display in the foyer of the Shire administration office for 5 days.

Interested members of the public were invited to provide feedback either in person at the Kiosk sessions, by completing a feedback form, or emailing the Shire.

Feedback was received from 50 people, with the majority (47) in full support for the proposal. Three people did raise some concerns about visibility of the building to passing tourists but also recognised that the proposed signage to the building would hopefully alleviate this concern.

The current renovation of the railway station building has played a significant part in demonstrating the suitability of the building to accommodate a visitor centre, the proposed inclusion of exhibition space is seen to add value to the visitor centre operations, the extent of nearby parking, and the popularity of the RV Friendly parking in the railway car park makes it easier to attract tourists to the new location.

The Council aims to have the Visitor Centre operating in its new location by November 2023.

One of the plans made available for comment during Community Consultation.
