If you're out enjoying our local trails, you’ll notice new "Dogs must be on a leash at all times" signage has been installed at the Old Abattoir and Wandoo Valley car parks.
Both of these sites are valued conservation areas jointly managed by DBCA and the Shire. While signage wasn't installed in the past, DBCA has confirmed that keeping dogs on a leash in these areas is required to protect our local wildlife and environment.
This update also comes in response to reports from community members and pet owners who have had uncomfortable encounters with uncontrolled off-lead dogs.
Keeping dogs on a leash helps ensure all trail users, including those who may be uncomfortable around unfamiliar dogs, feel safe sharing the trail.
Over the coming weeks, keep an eye out for additional "Dogs on Lead" reminder signage at:
- Old Rectory Walk (at the start of the trail)
- River Walk (entry off Coronation/Walter Street & near the footbridge)

Looking for places where your dog can run free?
If your pup needs to burn off some extra energy off-lead, head over to these great local spots:
- Memorial Park
- Somme Park
- Sunnyside Reserve
Please remember: even in off-lead areas, dogs must remain under effective voice control at all times.
Thank you for helping us keep our community, trails, and native wildlife safe!
