The Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes will introduce a fee for the disposal of green waste at the Bridgetown Waste Facility from Saturday, 1 August 2026.
This change reflects the increasing volume of green waste being received at the facility and the associated costs of handling, stockpiling, mulching and managing the material.
As volumes have increased, so too have the costs of providing the service. Until now, these costs have largely been subsidised by all ratepayers. The introduction of a user-pays system helps ensure that the cost of the service is covered by those who use it, rather than the wider community.
A reminder to Residents
Dumping green waste in bushland, reserves, road verges or other public areas is illegal and can have significant environmental impacts. Green waste often contains invasive weeds, plant diseases and seeds that can spread into natural areas and create long-term management issues.
Residents are encouraged to use the Waste Facility or consider reducing their volume of green waste by composting and mulching suitable material at home where practical.
