All landowners in the Shire are required to install firebreaks or reduce fuel loads around property boundaries and residences by 15 November each year.
In recognition of the fire prevention period, Council has approved a waiver of green waste fees at the Bridgetown Waste Facility for two months, from 15 September to 15 November 2026. The waiver is intended to support fuel reduction activities and help residents meet their annual firebreak obligations.
Who the waiver applies to
Residents and ratepayers will need to show their 2026/27 tip pass, or another form of identification displaying a Shire address, to access the free service. No tip pass clicks will be taken for green waste during this period.
Non-residents, and those without the identification described above, will continue to pay for green waste disposal.
Background
A user-pays green waste fee was introduced at the Bridgetown Waste Facility on 1 August 2026, requiring residents to use tip tokens or pay to dispose of green waste. The fee ensures those using the service contribute to its cost, and helps offset rising expenses associated with green waste processing and disposal.
Preparing your load
Only green or brown material from plants and trees should be included in green waste loads, and these loads must be separated from other waste. Please ensure green waste is free from pots, plastic, metal and other rubbish.
Plastic contamination is a significant issue in green waste. It makes the material more costly to process and reduces opportunities for reuse, which contributes to higher management costs.
