Online Cemetery Mapping and Database
The Chronicle Online Cemetery Mapping platform provides an evolution into the digital realm for the Bridgetown and Greenbushes Open cemeteries. It provides a digital mirror of our cemeteries that are shared and accessible from any mobile device for the community. It includes Aerial Drone survey images, plot mapping and interment information.
The project was initiated in March 2024 but stalled due to staff vacancies. It commenced in June 2024 through the supply of maps and cemetery listings for system input. This was followed by 19 months of digitising all existing paper copy maps, auditing and cross-referencing old cemetery books, existing headstones, plaques, old individual lists and data held within the Synergy Cemeteries module by the Shire’s Information Management (records) team. This information was forwarded to Chronicle and the system updated, it was then double checked by the Shire’s team, further changes made and then triple checked for accuracy in plotting and data.
This system is due to go LIVE for the worldwide community in late January 2026 and will allow the community to search for loved ones that are interred in these two cemeteries. Updated photos of headstones and plaques have been included with each listing so that these can also be searched and viewed by the community.
As new interments occur the system will be updated with all the appropriate information to enhance the database.
Development of signage with QR codes for each cemetery has also occurred for quick access for the community to the specific cemetery. This QR code will also be available on the Shire website Cemetery page once we launch.
