A firebreak alone won't save your house.

Plenty of properties in the Shire have a textbook firebreak and a metre of dry fuel banked up against the back wall of the house.

Fuel hazard reduction is a separate requirement under the Notice, and it's the part that most often determines whether a home survives.

Work outwards from your house and deal with:

🏠 Right at the house - leaves out of gutters and valleys, nothing stored under the deck or against the walls, firewood stacks moved well away

🌳 The first 20 metres - grass short, ground litter raked up, low branches pruned so fire can't climb from the ground into the canopy

🚜 Beyond that - dead timber and slash removed, long grass slashed, gaps between shrubs so fire can't run through unbroken fuel

Every trailer load you take out now is fuel that can't burn later. And for the next six weeks, it costs you nothing to drop off.

📍 Bridgetown Waste Facility, free green waste until 15 November.
