We’re very happy to share that the Blackwood Road Greenbushes footpath upgrade is now complete.
This project was initiated by resident feedback regarding uneven paths, trip hazards from tree roots, mixed surfaces and footpaths that stopped short - making it harder (and sometimes unsafe) to get around. The newly constructed footpaths address these issues and the result is a safer, smoother and more welcoming place to walk.
While the main works are now complete, a small number of minor finishing touches will be undertaken over the next couple of weeks to finalise the project.
With funding from Talison’s Community Investment Program, the Shire was able to invest in a long‑term improvement that supports everyday walking, accessibility and connection.
Working with a landscape architect - and guided by further community input - we’ve refreshed the streetscape in a way that respects Greenbushes’ character while improving how the area works for people moving through it.
The project outcomes:
- Brand‑new concrete footpaths on both sides of Blackwood Road, from the School and Community Hall right through to Spring Gully Road
- New walking connections linking to the Greenbushes Pool walking track
- Feature paving to celebrate important buildings and places
- Fresh landscaping, including:
- Soft pea gravel around established box trees to protect roots
- Compacted gravel in other landscaped areas
- Rain gardens that help manage water, cool the street and add greenery
We thank the Greenbushes community for its patience and support throughout this project.
Shire President Cr Stepehen Carstairs said "The completion of this project provides important improvements for the Greenbushes community, particularly for those with mobility issues and children , who can now enjoy safe movement through their township. With funding provided by Talison, Shire officers and external contractors have delivered a high quality outcome that adds significantly to the amenity of Greenbushes. - I now encourage the community to get out and enjoy it."
