Nominating for Council

The Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes will have 6 vacancies at the 2025 Local Government Election.

To stand for election as a councillor, you must:

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • be an Australian citizen or a British subject prior to 26 January 1984
  • be an elector of the district
  • have completed the Department's mandatory Local Government Candidate Induction.

Additional requirements can be found on the Western Australian Electoral Commission website.

How to nominate

Nominations open on Thursday, 28 August 2025 and close at 4.00pm on Thursday, 4 September 2025.

To nominate for Council, candidates are required to do the following: 

  • Complete the mandatory online Local Government Candidate Induction Course 
  • Complete the nomination form, candidate profile and written statement*. Candidates are encouraged to use the Western Australian Electoral Commissions' Nomination Builder to complete their nomination form and candidate profile (candidate profile examples can be found here). 
  • provide a recent passport sized photo (optional)
  • Pay a nomination deposit of $100 (cash, EFT, bank cheque or postal order)
  • Lodge their nomination with the Returning Officer by 4.00pm Thursday 4 September 2025. 

*a written statement is optional. In addition to your profile, you may provide additional information that you consider to be relevant to your candidature. This written statement cannot be more than 2,000 characters (including spaces),  and is for publication on the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes' website only.
