The Bridgetown Library’s Rhyme Time group had a special visit from the Fire Department last Wednesday.
Fireman Bob, his team, and the volunteer firefighters from Hester Brook all came down to the library to talk about fire in the home and what to do in case of a fire emergency. The team explained their roles and all the different jobs they do as a firefighter. Bob and his team made it a memorable event for the kids; they brought four different emergency vehicles and had flashing lights and posters throughout the library. There was a practice evacuation out to the skate park, where the kids were able to sit in a fire truck, sound the sirens, and test out the fire hose themselves.
The exciting day ended with a calming storytime featuring Spot the Dog and his own adventures in the fire brigade. The children all went home with a firefighter colouring book and stickers. Each parent received a booklet on how to prepare for fires and additional information to discuss with family members at home.
