Town Hall Redevelopment Has Commenced

It is with great excitement that we announce, the Bridgetown Town Hall Redevelopment Project has now commenced.

The Town Hall is an iconic structure for Bridgetown, originally opening in January 1936. There was a renovation in 1982 which unfortunately hid some heritage features and also reduced the acoustic quality of the building.

This current redevelopment project aims to restore and conserve many of the original aspects of the building, while also upgrading facilities to a contemporary standard.

A significant upgrade of equipment for the lighting, audio and staging elements, and seating will allow for improvements in the facility as a venue for live music, theatre, film and other art and cultural activities for the community.

Other works include:

  • Installation of new acoustic plasterboard ceiling, in keeping with the original design.
  • Refinishing of floors
  • Painting of interior surfaces
  • Power capacity upgrade to the Administration Centre, Town Hall and civic centre to accommodate the technical facilities and accommodate the installation of a generator for emergency power backup

Due to the construction works on the hall there will be a disruption to the access of the public toilets at the rear of the Civic Centre.
There will still be access to the male public toilets, which will become unisex toilets for the duration of the construction, however, there will not be a toilet that meets universal access standards.
Access to these toilets will be from the Hampton Street northern boundary of the Shire building rather than from the rear car park.

The closest universal access toilets are located on Hampton Street at the Community Kiosk or Memorial park.

It is estimated that the project will be complete in time for the Bridgetown Blues Festival in November 2023.
