South West COVID-19 Lockdown

So here we are in our first day of lockdown and it is both strange and encouraging to see and hear the town centre so quiet. This lockdown has been implemented quickly and while the situation is fluid we want to share some important information.

The State Government has released a directions document that you can view here. The directions document requires all people in affected areas to stay home other than for reasons specified in order to prevent, control or abate the risks associated with the pandemic and limit the spread of COVID-19.

While we are in lockdown, many businesses are allowed to remain open for trading with non-retail businesses encouraged to have staff working from home. The directions state that a person can leave home for the purpose of undertaking duties as an essential worker. There is a wide range of businesses that fall under the classification of an essential worker including medical and health services but also supermarkets, cafes, bakeries, butchers, bottle shops, banks, post offices, mechanical workshops and newsagents.

In line with state government guidelines we have closed the library, visitor centre, gym, leisure centre and aquatics complex. All other Shire services fall under the essential category and will continue to be delivered.

While a number of our staff are working remotely, the Shire administration office is open. However, due to lockdown directions we are not accepting face-to-face appointments. We will deal with enquiries via telephone and email. We are wearing face masks and encourage anyone entering the Shire to please do the same, unless of course you comply with one of the identified exemptions which you can view here.
