Is There a Bushfire Near Me?

Smoke during sunset

We would like to share a message from our Community Emergency Services Manager, Lyndon Pearce during this bushfire season.

Although it’s often a convenient and quick way to check what’s going on in the area, oftentimes the information on Facebook/Twitter is unverified. This could present a danger during an emergency to anyone acting off this information.

The control agencies for bushfire management release information to the following two places:

  1. Emergency WA web site – emergency.wa.gov.au
    • This site will provide all information that a resident will require in the event of a bushfire. This will also show prescribed burns and sightings of smoke.
  2. ABC radio – tune into local ABC radio broadcasts during a bushfire for information

If you see smoke, check the Emergency WA web site as it may be a long way off. If you see flames or smoke resulting from a nearby fire, the thing to do is call 000, not post it on Bridgetown Community Noticeboard on Facebook.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Lyndon Pearce at 0428 611 125.
