Community Consultation on Visitor Centre Relocation

Published on Friday, 5 May 2023 at 12:00:00 PM

Council has been working on the planned relocation of the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Visitor Centre, to the recently refurbished Bridgetown Railway Station and is excited to share concept drawings and plans for the public to provide feedback on.

Although the Railway Station is off the main road, the location provides better access for tourists, particularly in Caravans and large RVs. The adjoining car park in the town square not only provides parking for more cars, it also has 4 bays available for 24hr free camping, water and a dump point and EV charging station.

The current location of the Visitor Centre is also home to the Brierley Jigsaw Gallery. Bridgetown-Greenbushes Business and Tourism Association (BGBTA) is investigating enlarging the gallery into the space currently used by the Visitor Centre and will continue the management of the gallery.

Support from the BGBTA and good directional signage will prevent confusion regarding the relocation of the Visitor’s Centre to the Railway Station.

As well as being recently refurbished, the Railway Station is a historical building of interest in the Shire and an important part of the town’s historical story.
The new venue also allows for wonderful gallery spaces which is a great opportunity to share the work of local artists.

Council has had plans drawn up to help community visualise the proposed use of the Railway Station as the Visitor Centre. Council is asking for feedback on the plans so that the community’s ideas and concerns are taken into consideration before Council makes a final decision on this project.
Feedback will be considered by Council and reflected in any alternatives further developed.

There will be two opportunities to VIEW the plans, DISCUSS with a Shire councillor or staff member and PROVIDE FEEDBACK.
