Excerpt from "A Human for Kingsley" by Gabriel Evans

We are lucky to have a local celebrity amongst us! And a humble one at that. Gabriel Evans has written and illustrated numerous children’s books and his works have sold in twelve countries and been translated into ten languages. His ability to capture fun and wholesome moments transcend language.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Gabriel and asked him what motivated him to take this magical life path. “I enjoyed making art and pictures and I realised that picture books were a great medium to showcase the art. Picture books are such an important means for children to be introduced to life skills, life experiences and are enjoyed by older children and adults.”

Excitingly we are hosting one of Gabriel’s picture book workshops “Why Dogs Make Good Picture Book Characters” on Monday 24 January. Attendees will discover why dogs don’t just make good pets, but make for hilarious picture book characters. This workshop is best suited for children aged 6-10.

To reserve your spot, email the Bridgetown Library at library@bridgetown.wa.gov.au or call on 9761 2503.

For those aspiring artists out there, Gabriel offers this advice, “Draw every day. Draw things you enjoy and even those you find challenging. Try reading stories and then interpreting them visually.”

If you wish to learn more about Gabriel’s art, view his upcoming workshops, or find his available books, have a look at his website which, of course, is impeccably illustrated!
