Bushfire

We have been successful in securing $188,935 through the Mitigation Activity Fund Grants program to carry extra bush fire mitigation activities through the Shire. Activities include mechanical treatments to reduce fuel levels, creation of firebreaks and planned burns.

Before each bushfire season, the Bushfire Mitigation Coordinator identifies areas suitable for treatment using historical data and through observations. Prior to a prescribed burn our bush fire mitigation team check that tracks are clear, prepare the area by raking around old trees and then undertake a cold burn followed by mop-up.

The activities we will undertake are:

  • 15 prescribed burns
  • 16 mechanical treatments
  • 1 track development
  • 1 chemical treatment
