During the summer months we offer another exercise class at the Aquatics Complex, the very popular Fit 4 Life Aquafit. The class features strong muscle and aerobic conditioning with a focus on posture and balance, which translates to improved land-based posture and balance. Ariel (the Little Mermaid) could have really benefitted from this!

Judy O’Hara, our AquaFit fitness instructor shared that "because water provides its own resistance, it’s quite surprising for people how much strength conditioning they can actually experience. The water cushions joints because they don’t have to work against gravity. Aqua aerobics has a profound effect on core strength, both your pelvic area and abdominals, due to working overtime."

Judy also wants the community to know that the classes are appropriate for any age or fitness background. "It’s perceived as a senior workout, which it most certainly caters for but many elite sporting groups are now taking up aqua aerobics as part of their fitness program. As a bonus, recovery is faster than a standard land-based workout.”

Plus aqua aerobics is not just about the physical aspect. The class also delivers quite the “brain gym.” Judy promotes the importance of neuroplasticity, which is the ability of the brain to form and reorganise synaptic connections, especially in response to learning or experience or following an injury. She gradually evolves the choreography to continue to work your mind as much as your body.

So if you have a fitness related New Year’s resolution, or are looking to spice up your exercise route, join Judy for some upbeat tunes and workout in the most pleasant azure blue water at our aquatics facility. You can purchase individual class passes or as 10 or 20 class passes (with a small discount on individual class pass).  Don’t forget to bring a water bottle, your bathers, and a towel.  If you would like to learn more please call the Bridgetown Leisure Centre on 9761-2966/
