NAIDOC Week LogoFor NAIDOC Week 2022, Council’s new Cultural Inclusion Advisory Committee collaborated with the local Wadandi-Pibulmun Elder and renowned artist, Sandra Hill for the stunning banners adorning the entrance to our town. She supplied prints of her original paintings to share the message of NAIDOC week, which this year was Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!

In addition to the banners, Council, through the Cultural Inclusion Advisory Committee, sponsored around 60 high school students to experience a guided tour of Sandra Hill’s Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Exhibition; Past, Present and Future - A cultural Journey, at the Balingup Packing Shed. Many of the students found the exhibition emotionally moving and deeply impactful. The Shire received positive feedback from the High School, parents and community members. A big thank you to Sandra Hill for facilitating the guided tours and the members of the Cultural Inclusion Advisory Committee for developing the idea and supporting this important outcome.
