Following the Hester bushfires in February, the Bridgetown Lions Club opened a Community Disaster Relief Fund to facilitate the collection of community donations. Community members were quick to donate to this bushfire recovery fund.

A second fund was established to hold the generous donations received from many other Lions Clubs throughout Western Australia.

A Bushfire Recovery Fundraising Sub-committee was formed to determine how to distribute the funds raised. This sub-committee comprised representatives from the Bridgetown Lions Club, Bridgetown Rotary Club and the Shire.  The sub-committee determined criteria for distribution of the funds which were based on levels of property damage and the level of devastating impact to individuals during and after the fire.

We would like to inform everyone that the first round distribution of funds has occurred with funds being distributed to deserving individuals and families that suffered the most loss. Their information will remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of their situations. We hope that for those who lost everything that these funds help them in whatever way they require.

Distribution of the second round of funds will occur shortly.

We thank you for your support to our community. It is moments like these that our community truly shines.
