Firebreak and Fuel Hazard Vigilance Required & Restricted Burning Period

Published on Monday, 15 March 2021 at 9:24:30 AM

With the unusual early autumn rainfall it’s easy to be lulled into a false sense of security with regard to fire safety.

Property owners need to maintain compliance with the Firebreak and Fuel Hazard Reduction Notice up to (and including) 10 May 2021.  You can view the Notice here.

The lovely rain we have had is likely to induce pasture and lawn growth which might mean you need to revisit your current fire prevention measures to make sure they still comply.

Restricted burning period commenced on 15 March 2021.  From this date, you can obtain a permit for any open fire from your Fire Control Officer.  These permits will not be issued for the burning of green waste.  All green waste can be taken to the tip free of charge.  The restricted burning period will continue through to 10 May 2021 at this point in time.  Weather conditions closer to that date may determine whether it is extended so don’t assume you are ok to burn without a permit!  Fines for any noncompliance with the Firebreak and Fuel Hazard Reduction Notice will be applied.
