COVID-19 Complacency

Late in July WA passed a significant milestone of 100 days since any unknown local transmission of COVID-19.  This is both encouraging and potentially a concern given the well reported deterioration in social distance and hand washing throughout our state. Professor Watson, Executive Dean of The University of Western Australia Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, said it should be made very clear to all West Australians that the virus had not “gone away”, with the Victorian outbreak a glaring example of what could happen “in the blink of an eye”.

Professor Watson stated that “we must be “very careful” and “keep its foot on the accelerator” now that it has passed the milestone of 100 days since any unknown local transmission of COVID-19, as there is a “great danger of complacency that comes with having done so well”.

Business owners in our Shire have identified the lack of social distancing on the local level and also disregard by patrons of the need for business owners to abide the guidelines set by the State Government under ‘stage 4’ of eased restrictions and adhere to their COVID-19 Safety Plans.  Compared to the rest of Australia, we are very fortunate with the post COVID-19 environment we are enjoying.  Let’s continue to work hard to ensure we support each other and our community at the local and state level to stay ‘COVID-19 Free’ by not allowing complacency to creep in.
