Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries Worker Shortage Support

Published on Friday, 4 December 2020 at 8:57:36 AM

COVID-19 has had a significant impact on our agriculture industry with primary producers struggling to secure workers (skilled and unskilled) to assist with roles in agriculture, horticulture or fisheries.

Traditionally, backpackers and travellers fill a number of seasonal roles across agriculture but with COVID-19 travel restrictions in place, we have seen backpackers denied entry into Australia or leaving our shores for home. This has resulted in a critical number of shortages, which presents an opportunity for domestic students, graduates and skilled workers.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) has recently entered into a partnership with Studium to supply workers with applicable skills and attributes to businesses that face a critically short supply.

Studium is a privately owned Australian company helping students into employment).  This partnership aims to connect employees and employers in the agriculture and food space.
