2021 is Census Year

Published on Wednesday, 2 June 2021 at 7:52:00 AM

The Census counts every person and household in Australia. It gives a snapshot of who we are and tells the story of how we are changing. Census data is used to plan services that impact our lives, from schools, healthcare, transport and infrastructure to local support for individuals, families and communities.

This important information helps Federal, State and Local Government to understand the needs of the public at all levels of government and we use the Census data a lot in our planning and preparing grant applications to demonstrate need for identified services and projects.  We will be encouraging everyone to participate in the 2021 Census.

We have previously shared employment opportunities that the Census will provide and you can review those articles here

The Census is run by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.  They provide a range of assistance to help people complete their Census form including:

  • The Census form is available in Braille, large print and audio.
  • The National Relay Service is available for people who call the helpline on 1800 512 441.
  • Assistance in languages other than English is available through the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131 450.
  • A video on how to complete the Census in Auslan.
  • Our advertising and information will be translated into 41 languages (depending on the product) including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages.
  • Specially trained Field Officers will be in the community helping people experiencing homelessness participate.
  • Remote staff will visit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Pop up hubs in identified areas/communities.

Please remember that your information helps us help you!  So as August gets closer and closer please keep an eye out for, and complete, your Census form!
