Project Overview

The Greenbushes CBD Parking & Safety Enhancement Project is considered to be extremely important to the infrastructure of the town. The condition of the car park has been an ongoing concern for businesses and residents of the town, and is identified in community consultations as a prime area for improvement to support the growth of the town and its ability to attract and retain population.

The project will develop the Greenbushes town precinct to allow the economic development of:

  • Existing and potential shops and services
  • Safe access and delivery of goods
  • Safe parking for school and regional bus services
  • Improved safety for log and mine trucks accessing the roadhouse and ablution
  • Improved safety for pedestrians and visual amenity of the area.
    • This will be achieved by developing car parking, vehicle access and thoroughfares and pedestrian thoroughfares to allow for safe access to the precinct.

The redevelopment would see the existing informal dirt parking space that runs parallel to the main retail and business area replaced with a sealed surface, with appropriate parking markings, distinct and separate pathways, pram ramps and disability access. A major feature of the new parking area will be drainage – the existing parking area has no drainage works and hence is susceptible to significant flooding, making it unserviceable for extended periods.

Key Outcomes

  • Purchase of identified parcels of land to create safe, level, parking in the CBD
  • Earthworks and levelling of site to ensure level parking areas/pedestrian access
  • Landscaping of the verges, open spaces around existing buildings; connecting retail spaces to pedestrian access and car parking
  • Creation of pull in bay for heavy haulage vehicles and buses/coaches
  • Improving access to Greenbushes CBD (universal access)
  • Universal access car bays
  • Caravan/trailer parking
